Mahendra Library to go digital

The new working committee of 75-year-old Mahendra Library of Nepalgunj has decided to upgrade the library as an e-library while making it up-to-date. They have also prepared the planning for its implementation.

Balram Yadav, chairman of the library, informed that while passing the budget and programmes of the library in the current fiscal year the committee had allocated the budget for creating an e-library. The committee which had passed a total budget of Rs. 2.7 million had allocated Rs. 200,000 for starting e-library. A sub-committee for the e-library will be formed from among the lifetime members of the library, he added.

Informing that the necessary physical infrastructure for the e-library would be bought this year, Yadav said that the full-fledged e-library would be completed during his tenure.

In addition to this, the library management committee said that the library will operate a reading room, make arrangements for the readers to read the books, and bring the auditorium into operation within a few weeks.

Yadav said that one can become a member of the library and borrow books by subscribing membership at Rs. 250. The library, established in 1946 under the name of Prem Library, was changed to Mahendra Library in 1967.
