NEST-Nepal Education Support Trust


NEST  was founded by Purna Kumar Shrestha in 2000 which aims to bring a sustainable improvement in the quality of life of disadvantaged communities in Nepal primarily through creating education opportunities for marginalised groups particularly for girls, children with disabilities and children affected by earthquakes. NEST helps them to get a good education, one which is relevant to their needs, suited to their environment, and one which will help them to overcome poverty and live healthily and safely in their community.  NEST believes in the power of education  to make the world a better place.

NEST  is registered as a non-government organisation with the District Administration Office , Makawanpur, Nepal (#599/056-057 ). It is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (#10487) and  its PAN number is 301477646.

Since its inception, NEST  has partnered  with ICFON, the Netherlands  in creating  education and income generation opportunities for 90 families through goat and buffalo raising programme and  supported Janapriya Technical School, Hatiya to improve the quality of JTA and VET training sponsoring   lab equipments and teaching materials and hostel facilities.

 

In collaboration with Everest of Apples, Aomori Japan  NEST runsPrajwal School , a non-profit making lower secondary school in Hetauda.

NEST has supported 150 schools in Makawanpur district to set up school libraries in partnership withRoom to Read Nepal.

NEST co-ordinates with the District Education Office, Makawanpur and involves all major stakeholders (students, parents, school management committees, local community organisations, teachers, head teachers and government officials) in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of its programmes. NEST is working with 150 community schools of Makawanpur districts to improve the quality of education.

NEST’s programmes directly contribute to achieving the District Education Plans which ultimately lead towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and Education for All goals and proposed  sustainable goal 4.
