Wanted: 15 volunteers to build a school in Nepal

Dubai: If you have been thinking about joining a volunteer campaign, a Dubai charity might just provide the fulfilling experience you have been looking forward to.

In October, 15 handpicked volunteers will travel with Dubai Cares for a week, to a remote region in western Nepal. There, the volunteers will help the locals build a new school in a community.

Interested candidates must be 21 or above and can log on to www.volunteers.ae for more details. Applications close on June 28.

Dubai Cares will then shortlist 50 applicants based on the responses provided in the application, with priority given to those who register first.

Then, the 50 shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in one-on-one interviews between July 17 and 24, 2017.

Following the interview process, Dubai Cares will select the 15 volunteers who will undertake the project.

The volunteers will travel to Nepal from October 21 to 28.

During the week-long mission, volunteers will assist in digging, picking, mixing concrete and making bricks.

They will also have the opportunity to learn more about the local culture and customs and engage in positive interactions with the local populace.

The programme, called Volunteer Globally 2017, has been rolled out to mark Zayed Humanitarian Day. The day, marked on the 19th day of Ramadan each year, is in memory of the humanitarian efforts of Shaikh Zayed, the UAE’s founding father.

“This is our 4th edition of Volunteer Globally and I have to admit it is our most popular volunteering initiative,” said Rana Awad, marketing manager at Dubai Cares.

“It provides an opportunity for our volunteers to experience the work we do in developing countries through a rewarding and eye-opening experience.

“The values of commitment, adaptability and respect play a vital role in the success of Volunteer Globally.”

Dubai Cares, which is part of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, is a UAE-based global philanthropic organisation working towards providing children and young people in developing countries with access to quality education.
