The Central Department of Nepalbhasha of Tribhuvan University has launched the peer-reviewed journal ‘Nepalbhasha’ with the digital object identifier (DOI).
The journal, the first in Nepal Bhasa and among the indigenous languages of Nepal to have the DOI unique alphanumeric string assigned by the International DOI Foundation to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the internet, was launched on Monday on the occasion of the Department’s 42nd anniversary.
The journal, along with the book ‘Samaj Bhasabigyaanyaa Chhun,’ was launched by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and former and present officials of the Central Department amid a programme organised at the Department office at Patandhoka, Lalitpur.
On the occasion, Maharjan promised that no resident of Lalitpur would have to hang their head low in shame because of his work as the mayor and shared his plans for the revival of the city’s water sources, mainly the Lotus Ponds and the Saptapatal Pond at Lagankhel.
He also announced that the metro would provide full scholarships to five students pursuing a Master’s degree in Nepal Bhasa and asked the Department to recommend the names for the same.
Amid the programme organised to celebrate its anniversary, the Department also handed out different prizes and scholarships to high achieving pupils. It also honoured the patrons who have established various awards and grants at the Department.
Speaking at the event, the guests, officials and patrons stressed that anyone, including people from outside the New community, could study Nepal Bhasa and informed that the Department taught various aspects of the New language, literature, culture and civilisation using the Bhasa as only a medium of instruction.
