Eco Village Nepal

LET’S BUILD A MODEL ECO VILLAGE IN NEPAL!

The Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation is a growing NGO in Nepal and an opportunity is available to integrate all of the programs above and build the Foundation around a core physical village center.  A large (180’ x 140’) open lot in the center of the village is for sale.  We have until April 1st, 2013 to raise the $70,000 needed to purchase the land for the Foundation as an endowment. This land will be used to develop the following programs:

  • Affordable Eco Housing made with recycled glass bottles
  • Community bath facilities
  • Jewelry/Craft Workshop
  • Cafe
  • Water Purification Fountain with storage tanks
  • Outdoor gathering place
  • Bio-gas Tank
  • Bio-Briquette Workshop
  • Cow Shed
  • Garden tool shed
  • Playground
  • Volunteer Program

KRMEF is dedicated to the continued growth and development of the village community both ecologically and economically, and the village center will be a key piece to help our small foundation make an even greater impact to the region. The Village Center will be critical to our ability to provide jobs, food, education, affordable housing, and a more complete way of life to the local villagers of Khahare. We plan to spread our growing knowledge to surrounding villages within Nepal to help them accomplish the same goal.

Moreover, KRMEF hopes that the Village Center can provide more volunteer opportunities to people from all over the world who want to make a difference in their life. So far we have had volunteers from 26 countries joining our practice. Once the Village Center is built, more volunteers facilities and programs will be available.

The purchase of this land will prevent the local liquid petroleum gas company from expanding it’s unsustainable operations in Khahare.  With your support we will be able to transform the land into a sustainable operation for the community.

Make a change in Nepal, make a difference in your life!

OUR STORY

On September 14, 2002, Kevin Rohan Gurung was born in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Kevin was a physically active child and quite clever. Krishna and Leela Gurung, his parents, held a strong intention for Kevin to grow up to be a creative and “biodynamic man” valuing the interrelationships of the soil, plants, animals and humans as a self-sustaining system. At the young age of seven, Kevin Rohan tragically left this world. Heartbroken by his passing, Krishna and Leela made it their life’s work to celebrate Kevin’s life and honor him by building a foundation in his name located in the village of Khahare in the southwest corner of Kathmandu. Kevin lives on through the work being done at the Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation (KRMEF) to impart on the global community the same values and practices that Krishna and Leela wanted to teach Kevin.

As of now KREMF has developed an implemented innovative green developments into its various programs, including building structures out of recycled glass bottles, developing a fuel source from recycled waste paper mixed with cow manure, jewelry manufacturing using local sustainable resources, and biodynamic agriculture that removes the use of any and all pesticides/chemicals used in both organic and non-organic farming today.
